An existing Midwest Rubber agricultural equipment customer of a single-piece shift boot needed a longer extension added to a current boot design. The added boot extension became cost prohibitive due to the higher cost of the tool required to manufacture the longer, more difficult part. This hydraulic lever boots extension would also add significantly to manufacturing costs.

We kept production costs at a minimum without sacrificing quality by using our agricultural industry customer’s existing shift boot as the base for the much-needed extension, which was developed using our slush molding process. By using the existing shift boot as a base, which was the same size required for the new part, Midwest Rubber engineers designed the new extension as an additional part that could be permanently attached to the current shift boot base in a final assembly step. As a result, tooling costs were kept to a minimum and the manufacturing costs of the extension were well within the client’s budget target.
